Come Clean – Hilary Duff

For the last couple of weeks, we’ve been exploring our alternative tendencies. Today, we’re snapping right back to our pop-est pop. We know you read the title. You know where this is going.

The most important thing about Hilary Duff is that she was Lizzie McGuire. Lizzie McGuire is still our moral compass today. Whenever don’t know what to do about our parents not giving us enough freedom or about our annoying dweeb of a little brother, a little animated Lizzie shows up to sit on our shoulder and help us work through it. We wanted to be Lizzie, or at least Miranda, with their expert layering and endlessly inventive hairstyles. The show was a masterpiece, and we won’t hear otherwise.

While Lizzie McGuire was crucial to the emotional and ethical development of the youth of America, Hilary Duff’s music career was less so. The world just wasn’t ready for her brilliance. So, we’re bringing it back this week with “Come Clean,” from Hilary’s second album, Metamorphosis. We legitimately had no idea she had more than one album, so that’s a fun fact – apparently she has released 4 albums, 2 EPs, 4 video albums, 1 live album, 3 compilation albums, 14 music videos, and 17 singles. On this track, she’s venting just a little bit of teen angst. She wants the rain to fall, presumably so she can dance in it. As well you know, we’ve been waiting for the rain to fall, too. Get your preteen selves ready and give this track a listen:
