Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head – BJ Thomas
We’ve been complaining for weeks about how summer won’t quite come to New York. It’s still kind of chilly and still raining all the time. So, we’re giving in. We’re closing the windows, turning on the Netflix, and waiting for news from the outside world that summer is truly here to stay. It’s that plan that brings us to this week’s Singin’ in the Rain. You guys have seen Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, right? If you haven’t, go straight home to your own Netflix accounts and rectify the situation. We did, and boy, are we glad. Paul Newman? Robert Redford? Please and thank you.
Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head was actually written specifically for the movie. Critics questioned the use of such a pop-y song in a Western but the scene has since become a classic. Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman) picks up his lady love on his bike and they ride around in the country, picking apples on the fly and enjoying the sunshine. We can almost feel the summer sun just thinking about it. The best part is when Butch starts doing bicycle stunts. We’re putting up the clip from the movie here, but you should check out BJ Thomas’s music video, too. It’s gloriously retro and features some pretty sweet effects, including a cloud that rains on BJ’s head on stage. Fabulous. Give it a listen:
